Samurai Duel now available for iPad

The Fancy Lads Academy is proud to announce the release of our first game, Samurai Duel! It’s a fast-paced, two player samurai showdown for ipad featuring one finger controls, colorful cartoon graphics and cool minimalist interface.

We will probably write up a little review of the process of making our first indie game after we take a breather and fix any bugs that pop up.

In the meantime, go get Samurai Duel for iPad now!

New Samurai Duel screens from the beta

Here are some screens from the Samurai Duel beta! We are on the fast track to submit the game to Apple this weekend. As you can see we are going for a minimal look with simple touch controls. Samurai Duel is a two-player battle of speed and accuracy controlled by one finger. We’ve done lots of play testing with drunk adults and everyone seems to have a lot of fun with it!

We got some people together to record vocals for the music for Samurai Duel this weekend. The end result is way more epic than we expected.

Character designs for Samurai Duel

So, the Fancy Lads Academy has put our FIRST game on hold and we’ve started our SECOND game, Samurai Duel, a two-player iPad game. While Scott got busy with the prototype, Chris started the art. Here is how the character designs went down…

Everything starts as a sketch and then is redrawn as vectors in Illustrator. Most of the sketches sucked but these were on the money.

Here are the vectorized designs for the red and blue characters. Each samurai has five weapons (big sword, small sword, pole weapon, club, and bow).

So, the colors have been toned down a bit and next comes the hardest part if you aren’t an animator - animating!

Currently, we’re getting the animations integrated into the prototype. Next up, Scott will be doing music and sound effects!
